Game 2 Summary

Game 2 has come and gone and hopefully we all had fun.  Without question, we played the most challenging game on the schedule this season, and we held together as a team and everyone did a great job!

So far, we are doing very well with showing up for the game ready to play and not  fighting over playing time and positions.  Lets keep that going.  If everyone shows up a little early it is much easier to see who is available to play and with extra time we can also ask each player which positions they want to play that day.

I can't emphasize enough how important it is as role models that we are the coolest and calmest people on the field.  Remember the kids are always watching and they will model our behavior.  Lets continue to keep it simple and positive.

Here are a few areas that we will be focusing on in the coming weeks.  Feel free to practice these at home:

Defense:

1) Rushing the passer - Any player starting 7 yards out can rush the passer and should run directly to the QB and pull the flag.  I stressed this on every play, and we never pulled a flag.  Sometimes they did not rush and other times they arrived and did not pull the flag.

2) Flag pulling -  We missed a few plays by waiting to pull the flag.  I saw blocks, jumps and touches that should have been flag pulls.

3) Cut-off rather than chase pursuit - On the run plays, we tend to "Over Commit" and end-up chasing the runner rather than backing up and cutting them off.  Never chase.

Offense:

1) Speed - We need to hike and move.

2) Hand-off - We need to practice consistency.

3) Pass/catch - The QB is throwing softly so its catchable and the WR is not going to the ball.  Both need to be a little stronger.

Thank you for being active parents and helping all of our kids succeed.   Lets keep it fun!
